ELECTRONICS
II/COMPUTER NETWORKING
Grade
12
Computer Networking is a one year program designed to
instruct the student in the building and maintenance of computer network
systems. Students are provided the opportunity to work toward (CCNA) Cisco
Certified Networking Associate certification through the Local Cisco Networking
Academy. This certification is designed to meet employment standards for
the networking industry.
The Cisco
Networking Academy Management System is the foundation of the program.
It is an innovative model for "e-learning". Web based delivery
of instruction is supplemented by numerous online tools that empower the
local academy to manage the program. CNAMS provides online testing, student
performance tracking, and a Quality Assurance Plan. The program features
hands-on, project-driven training in high-demand job skills.

Recommended Preparation
The student
needs a reading comprehension level of GE 8. The CISCO curriculum and
all reading assignments are on computer. The student needs to understand
the concepts of binary and hexadecimal number systems. *
* CCTEC complies
with the Americans with Disability Act of 1990.
Articulated Credit
If a student completes the program and meets the specific criteria required
for articulation, he/she may be able to articulate hours of course work
taken at the high school level and apply them toward college credit hours
in the same field.
Job Outlook
Computer scientists, computer engineers, and systems analysts are expected
to be three fast growing occupations. Demand for these jobs is expected
to increase much faster than average as technology becomes more sophisticated
and organizations continue to adopt and integrate these technologies,
making for plentiful job openings. The demand for "networking"
to facilitate the sharing of information, the expansion of client/serve
environments, and the need for specialists to use their knowledge and
skills in a problem solving capacity will be a major factor in the rising
demand for systems analysts.
Employment Growth
The expanding integration of Internet technologies by businesses, for
example, has resulted in a rising demand for a variety of skilled professionals
who can develop and support Internet, Intranet, and World Wide Web applications.
